These cookies are well-known for their buttery flavor and delightful jam filling.

Ingredients
- ¾ cup butter, softened (room temperature)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk, room temperature
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons raspberry or strawberry preserves (or your favorite jam)
- Confectioners' sugar (powdered sugar), optional
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
- Prepare the Dough Base: In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until smooth. Add the egg yolk and mix well.
- Incorporate Flour: Stir in the flour by hand until just combined.
- Knead: On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough for 2-3 minutes or until it is thoroughly combined and smooth.
- Shape the Cookies: Roll the dough into 1-inch (2.5 cm) balls. Place them 2 inches (5 cm) apart on greased baking sheets.
- Make Indentations: Using the end of a wooden spoon handle, make an indention (a small depression) in the center of each ball.
- Fill: Fill each indention with ¼ teaspoon of preserves (jam).
- Bake: Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the cookies to a wire rack to cool. Optionally, you can dust the warm cookies with confectioners' sugar. Let them cool completely before serving!
